TELLURIDE, COLORADO

We took a drive to Telluride today.  Mr. W has never been there and wanted to go.  We went through another town named Dolores.  When Mr. W's mother was in a nursing home, she had a best friend named Jenny.  Jenny's son Jimmy has a summer home in Dolores.  He and Mr. W got to know each other and Jimmy had invited us up to visit.  He has a RV pad on his property which he told us we can stay on but had also told Mr. W about a great RV park on the Dolores river. However, Jimmy has had some health problems and since Mr. W's mother and Jenny have both passed away, Mr. W and Jimmy have sort of lost contact.  Mr. W knew that the people at the RV knew Jimmy so we stopped at the RV park and sure enough they gave us directions to Jimmy's house and gave us his phone number at his home here.  We decided if we had time on the way back, we would try to find his house.

The ride to Telluride was very pretty.  It is also different from the drive to Ouray.  The mountains are different because they have many meadows and a lot of green in this area.  We also saw a lot of deer, elk, and buffalo on our way.

At the top of the mountain before you drive down into Telluride is Mountain Village.  This is the chic resort town that has condos, shops, restaurants, golf course, ski lifts/runs, hiking trails, a heated parking garage, and anything else you would need if you were vacationing here.  Everyone we had talked to told us to park here and ride the gondolas down to Telluride.  So, we decided to have lunch here before we went down to Telluride.

We didn't eat here but this was one of the restaurants at the Mountain Village.

After lunch, we hopped on the gondola and started down.  Some of the sights from the gondola was pretty awesome.

The town of Telluride is a real "love, peace and free speech" little town, if you know what I mean.  Main street has some really cute shops and restaurants.  We walked down the street and walked through most of the shops.  There was a shop that we didn't go into and that was the shop where you could buy and smoke recreational marijuana.  You had to be 21 years old to enter.  We decided to have coffee instead.

You certainly get the idea that winter is definitely the busy time of year for Mountain Village and Telluride.  The streets were pretty bare at both places.  After we finished we headed back to the gondolas and headed back up to Mountain Village.  I snapped this last picture on  the drive back. We did find Jimmy's house on the drive back and actually talked to his brother.  Jimmy has been having health problems and may not make it to Colorado this year.  His brother invited us over for coffee and fishing but time won't allow that to happen.  It was a nice way to spend the day.
