THE LASAL MOUNTAIN LOOP

When we got to Moab, one of the things Mr. W wanted to do was drive a scenic route named Lasal Mountain Loop.  It is about a 65 mile loop that goes to the top of the Lasal mountains.  If you have noticed in some of my pics, there are snow topped mountains in some of the backgrounds.  Those are the Lasal mountains.  So, we decided to take this scenic drive to cooler weather since the temperature keeps going up.

We started out by going down the river road.  We ended up stopping at one of the boat launches to get a closer look at the river and to take a few pics.

Have you ever seen the commercial of some financial institution where a guy is standing on one of these rock towers or the commercial where a certain make of car is sitting on top of one of these rock towers?  Well, these are the towers.  They are called Fisher Towers.  Supposedly, the guy who named it meant for it to be named Fissure Towers but he didn't know how to write.  He told the guy in his exploration party who did know how to write who thought he meant Fisher instead of Fissure.  Interesting, huh?

We were here at the wrong time of day for the pictures to not to be looking into the sun.
Also along this road is Red Cliff Lodge.  A lot of the bus tours stay there.  They have a winery there, horseback riding, rafting/kayaking, and a nice restaurant.  As we turned off the river road and started up, a lot of the scenery remained the same.

The closer we got to the top, the closer the snow tops got.

When we were up near the top, we saw a road that said this way to Ooowah Lake.  We just had to turn.  There were some beautiful aspen trees that lined the road.  We made it to the lake and there was a primitive campground there too.

Ooowah Lake

Mr. W said this was going to be our next campsite.  Uh, I don't think so!
They had built a dam on the lake to chute the water through a large pipe/culvert and down the mountain in order to control the flow.  It made for some pretty flowing river shots.  You know, the pictures never do it justice.

It was a beautiful drive.  It is well worth it.  Not to mention the temperature up top was around 70 and the temperature back in Moab was 90.  I really could have stayed up there longer.

On our way back, we had to travel through a section of open range.  As we turned the corner, a momma cow was standing in the middle of the road and her baby was nursing.  Mr. W slowed down but before we got too close, momma cow started walking off the road.  I don't think baby cow was too happy.
