We are at a place where they have wi-fi right now, so I'm having to make several posts since I have been without wi-fi for a few days.
We left Cooperstown and headed over to Montour Falls. We are slowly making our way to Niagara Falls and this area is about half way between Cooperstown and Niagara Falls. It is also known for having about 300 waterfalls in the area. We are staying in a city park that has water and electricity. However, it is a pretty park and has a stream that runs behind some of the sites. There is also a waterfall in this park that is gorgeous. It is Havana Glen Park and it is $30 per night.
We made our way to see the waterfall once we got set up and then went to another one that was only about a 1 or 2 miles from the park. That one was not as easy to get to in order to get good pics.
Today, was rainy and cold, so we decided to visit the market they have in the area on every Saturday. It is a combination farmer's market/craft market. It is really, really big. They had many vendors of all kinds. There are many Mennonites/Amish in this area. They were well represented at this market. They had booths selling baked goods like cinnamon rolls, breads, sticky buns, pies, apple dumplings, cakes, you name it. Talk about good! All of their stuff is made with their own recipes and they are scrumptious and very reasonably priced. They also had a lot of their produce there. OMGee! It all looks so healthy and fresh.
This part of New York has a very large wine trail. For those of you who know the Texas wine trail through the Fredericksburg area, this is every bit as large or bigger. A few of those wineries were represented with booths and their tastings are free. New York is known for their ice wines. They don't pick their grapes until the first freeze and then make wine out of them. These wines are desert wines that are sweet, but potent. They are sold in a smaller bottle, but you only drink a small amount. I have really fallen in love with these wines even though I normally don't particularly like a sweet wine. Maybe it is all the when in Rome thing.
We are hoping for pretty weather tomorrow and are planning on going to the state park in town. They have 19 waterfalls in the park. Should be pretty awesome. Stay tuned.
