So, I decided to visit Conway, South Carolina. It is about 30 miles from North Myrtle Beach. It has a historic walk and a river walk. The historic walk was buildings that were built a long time ago and are still standing. Most have been restored. They had little markers out front and each was labeled as "Walking Historic Tour #3" and then had the history on a plaque. I did not do the walking tour because it was sunny and 96 degrees. But, I did decide to check out the river walk.
Well, the river walk ended up being not exactly what I thought but it was pretty nice. If you check out the signs along the walk, they offer family movies on one part every Friday night. There are festivals that happen. There are marinas along the way where some really nice boats/yachts dock if you want to go and covet someone's boat. :) There is a nice park for kids. There are picnic tables around the park. The river walk goes from one side of downtown to the other side of downtown. The downtown is not that big so, when the weather is nice, I bet this is a great place just to get outside and take a stroll or go for a run.

There is a lot of revitalization going on in downtown Conway. Most of the downtown buildings are old buildings that once housed something different than what is there now. New business has taken over some of these buildings, done some work to the building, and opened for business. I love to see that in these small towns. One place was called The Dashery. This was actually like a very small, inside group of stores that were housed together in half of 2 city blocks (back to back). I'm not sure if I'm making sense in this description. You can enter on one block, walk through the hallway that is lined on both sides with shops and come out on the other block. Anyway, they had redone the inside really cute.
Daughter had told me that the style for men in South Carolina is to wear pastels or loud color shirts, bow ties, and seer sucker suits. Since I had been in touristy, beachy, laid back places, I had not seen any men dressed in suits. But, sure enough, I found a men's store at The Dashery. She was right. I didn't take pics of this, but they even had bow ties paired with nice men's shorts and shirts.

After lunch, I visited a few more shops and actually saw a flyer that was advertising that on June 5th they had a Margaritaville Saturday downtown with a tribute to Jimmy Buffet and some other cool things that went on. Sorry I missed that. I stopped in the bakery before I left and the lady who owned the bakery was from San Antonio. I went in the department store and one of the sales ladies had lived in Kileen when her husband was in the army. You can find people from all over that have lived in Texas. Can't imagine why they would move away. ;)
On my way back to my truck, I heard something hammering on a tree right across the street from where I was parked. Guess what it was? You got it. A red headed woodpecker. I was surprised that I was able to get a pic of him.
If you like going into places when you are the only one in the shop, go to Conway during the week. When you like going into places when there are more people moving about and more things going on, go on a Saturday. Since I went during the week, I had the pick of parking spots. There are plenty of "2-hour" parking spots on the streets and a couple of free parking lots within walking distance to downtown. If you are in the area, check it out.

It does sound cute! When it cools down a little, I think a day trip is in order. :)
